Thank You for shopping our
Scholastic Book Fair
!

Hosted by our PTA, this event is a great opportunity for students of all ages to build their home
libraries and further their love of reading.

Choosing their own books empowers kids
and inspires them to become
Bolder, Prouder, and Stronger Readers.

AND—as always—every book they buy earns rewards for our school.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
We are excited to welcome shoppers to the upcoming Scholastic Book Fair.
Check out our FAQs below to answer all of your questions and get ready to find some great books!

Q: When and where is the Book Fair taking place?
A: Our Scholastic Book Fair will take place November 2-10 in the school library.
Students will preview the Book Fair on November 2-4.
Students will return to shop at the Book Fair November 7-10.

Q: How do I volunteer at the Book Fair?
A:  Visit our sign up (click here) to volunteer.

Q: Why should I shop at the Book Fair in-person rather than in our online Scholastic store?
A: You can peek inside the books to see what you’ll get!  It’s more fun!  Plus, our PTA will earn 50% from all in-person sales in the form of Scholastic Dollars. We only earn 25% from online sales. These Scholastic dollars are spent to buy books for our school library, our teachers’ classroom libraries, and our annual PTA game night.

Q: I would like to shop with my child at the Book Fair this week. How can I do that?
A: You may volunteer (click here)!  Unlike previously, there will not be open shopping with parents while the classes are visiting the Book Fair. However, the Book Fair will be open for shopping during the Reflections Art Show, during the Family Picnic Event, after school on November 9, and before school on November 10.  Don’t forget to bring your child’s wish list so that you can easily find the location of the items that first caught their eye!

Q: What is the wish list my child brought home?
A: The students will preview the Book Fair between November 2-4 and create wish lists that they will bring home to you. This is to give you an idea as to what your child is interested in, as well as which cart or table to find the items on. It is up to you if you would like to purchase those items. There is also information on the bottom on how to create an eWallet, which is a safe, cashless way for your child to shop.

Q: I won’t be able to shop with my child at the Book Fair this week but I’d like them to be able to buy something. What should I do?
A: You can set up an eWallet (click here) so they can come to school cashless. You can print out their eWallet for them to bring, but we will also have that information in our system. We will also accept cash, checks (made payable to Oak Hills PTA), and credit/debit cards. Many parents put their payment in a sandwich bag or envelope with their child’s name on it. If you use a check, we will provide cash change if they don’t spend the full amount.

Q: What happens to unspent funds in the eWallets?
A: Unspent funds from previous Book Fairs should be available in your Scholastic account as an eGift card. These funds can be used to set up a new eWallet. At the end of the current Book Fair, we will convert all remaining balances below $5 into All For Books donations to support our school library. We will make every effort to have teachers send children with larger balances back to the Book Fair to spend their remaining funds.

Q: How is the national coin shortage affecting our Book Fair?
A: Due to the national coin shortage, we will automatically “round up” all cash purchases to the nearest dollar so that we do not have to give out coin change. The donated “change” will buy books for our school library PLUS Scholastic matches the donations to buy books for literacy non-profit organizations.

Q: Will you monitor what students buy at the Book Fair this week?
A: No, the volunteers at the Book Fair will not be able to make choices about what the students purchase. Please have a conversation with your child about what they can and cannot buy. Please also remind your child that their money should be spent on themselves or siblings, not on purchases for friends or classmates. Besides books, we have posters, diaries, stationary, pencils, erasers, toys and more. Let them know what you would prefer they buy.

Q: What are the envelopes with the teacher’s names on them, near the librarian’s desk?
A: Each teacher was asked to select books that they think will complement their classroom libraries. Students may purchase a book and gift it to their teacher themselves. At the Book Fair, the purchaser will receive a sticker bookplate that they may stick on one of the opening pages of the book. This way, students in their class now and in the future will know who donated that book.

Q: My child’s class is going to shop at the Book Fair later in the week, should I be concerned there won’t be any good books left?
A: No, we will be restocking books throughout the week, especially the popular ones.
