Accelerated Reader (AR) is a program funded by the PTA that allows teachers and parents to track a student's reading progress throughout the school year. Students start off by taking a STAR test to determine their reading level and then set a reading goal for the trimester. After finishing a book, students take a quiz which tests their level of comprehension.
Students who meet their goal at the end of the trimester are rewarded by a special activity coordinated by the PTA. A reward ceremony takes place at the end of the year to recognize students who meet all 3 of their trimester reading goals.
Use AR Book Find to find books that are in the AR system. This ensures that your child will choose a book that is within their correct reading level range (which is determined by the STAR test at the beginning of the trimester). Finding a book that is in the AR system also ensures that there will be a corresponding quiz, so the book can count towards your child's goal. New books are added all the time into the AR system.
Home Connect allows parents to track their child's progress and see their cumulative completed work. Email updates alert you each time your child takes a quiz and how they did on the test.
